The thread or string holding them together is a great idea -- it's funny how taking a very literal idea such as having them tied together and actually drawing it amplifies the whimsical, fantastical nature of the idea. Also, the expressions are great. The mood you evoke here is very sad, but the imagination of the work lifts it beyond that. Excellent.
The way she is sitting and he is standing (plus thier amazing clothing) reminds me very much of those posed black and white portrait photographs back in the late 1800's. Great concept, stunning style!
